Statistics are at best, a guide. They cannot measure the subjective human qualities of the blood sweat and tears that go into building the agriculture sector of the community, but they can be an objective indicator of the work, the values, and the directions of that community.

Statistics for this Web site were compiled from Statistics Canada Agriculture Census 1996, from Environment Canada Weather Data 1981-1997, and from the Nechako Agriculture Survey 1999. For a more comprehensive report, please refer to The Nechako Valley Agriculture Reference Manual available through the Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, or Fraser Lake Library, Chamber of Commerce, Village Office, or Cattlemen's Associations.

This Web Site is made available by the Nechako Valley Regional Cattlemen's association in co-operation with The British Columbia Investment Agriculture Foundation and the Cattle Industry Horn Fund. For more information on these sources and associations please see our References section or contact NVRCA

The statistics within the following pages have been collected with careful attention to factual data. Where-ever possible, the numbers have been held up to close statistical analysis, so that these facts can assist in individual of community planning, for business development, expansion projects or change in production focus. They provide a solid foundation upon which to build Nechako Valley Regional Agriculture for today and tomorrow.

In 1996, 471 farms reported to Statistics Canada in Subdivision "A" of the Bulkley-Nechako Regional District. Of those 471 farms reporting*, there were:
