A Message from the President, Nechako Valley Regional Cattlemen's Association On behalf of the Nechako Valley Regional Cattlemen's Association, I welcome your interest in our agriculture region. I believe that as you read through the pages of this reference manual you will be amazed at the development of the Nechako Valley Agriculture sector. For many years we have needed a source of information that would highlight our industry. With this manual and the accompanying brochure and Web site, we now have agriculture information about our region readily available for everyone. Nechako Valley Agriculture is an important part of the social and economic fabric of the local and provincial community. It stimulates the local economy with over 23 million dollars in gross farm receipts every year*. It attracts significant business into the region through its livestock sales, custom work and land development. It provides a stable renewable product and a family oriented way of life. There is room to grow in the Nechako Valley. A 1999 arability study identified over 27,000 acres of crown land suitable for agricultural development. Though, much of the infrastructure is in place, there are still many opportunities for new enterprise and new ideas. We are a comparatively young region, eager and ready to meet the challenges of the 21st century in providing quality agricultural products for our region, our province, our nation and our world. We believe in the agriculture industry in the Nechako. We recognize its potential, and we encourage its growth. We hope that as you read through this manual or visit our Web site, you too will catch the excitement we feel for the possibilities with agriculture in the Nechako Valley. Welcome to the Nechako Valley. Mike Kulchar, President of the Nechako Valley Regional Cattleman's Association (NVRCA) 1999 Bob Barclay, Public Relations & Agriculture Information Project Steering Committee Chair with committee members, Rod McLeod, Roland Baumann and Wayne Ray. |
